Chicken Scratch for fattening up the ladies during winter?

MAYBE just maybe "alphalfa meal" is different then just plain alfalpha...i dont know though....just saying...

Alfalfa meal is a major ingredient in most chicken feed formula. 16-17% protein, filled with nutrients. Not poisonous. Geeesh.

I thought Alfalfa was in the Little Rascals? You know with Spanky, Buckwheat and et al.

My coop borders an alfalfa field and, since its owned by an understanding neighbor, my flock free ranges in it all day long. Ducks, chickens, and geese. All love it, all are healthy and happy.

We give our Silkie Chickens a treat daily all year SCRATCH> during the Winter we give them
cooked oatmeal, brown rice and sprouts, cabbage, pumpkin as treats.

We use Blue Seal Grower Pellets with 20 percent protein as a feed with plenty of fresh water.

I've read a lot that corn is good for the winter. Helps to give them some extra fat. Also for a treat, cooked oatmeal on especially cold days.

Yah, chickens love clover. Someone needs to write the person who put that list up and give them some better information.
