Not to ruffle feathers, but there’d really be something to crow about if, indeed, the chicken in every pot were a happy chicken. If it were just us chickens, imagine what would happen to the industrial food machine’s cock and bull “natural, hormone-free, all vegetarian” dinners! With more birds of a feather getting up with the roosters, healthier, humanely raised chicken would not be scarce as hen’s teeth, or as pricey. Is the sky falling? Recent hoo-haah over salmonella and rotten eggs may get a few more shoppers to fly the coop, but the industrial food machine will no doubt remain the fox in the henhouse. until more of us dumb clucks wake up and the likes of hen-pecked Purdue and Tyson go to roost. Call me Chicken Little, a cock sure old biddy or even a tough old bird, but I’m determined not to chicken out over a little chicken poop. After all, nothing else tastes like chicken at a hen party! (OK, yours truly is cooped up on this rainy day, but I do know not to count my chickens before they’re hatched.)
