hi there, would anyone happen to know a bit about flock meeting, introductions, etc. I recently got new chicks and think i might have a roo. I was hoping to maybe breed him with a few of the girls but not all at once. I already have six adult hens, and when all the chicks grow ( the rooster is part of this new batch ) ill have 13 hens. Im hoping to breed him with maybe 4-5 when hes pretty young. They would be seperated from the flock. My question is, if i seperate the young hens, will i recreate all the flock introduction drama with the old hens AND the other hens they originally grew up with if i try to mix them all again? it would just be really nice if after the short breeding period with a few ( trying to get specific breed ) i could just have the WHOLE flock together easily. It isnt a problem if i have to let the hens get used to each other again tho. simply curious and seeking advice :)

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this

If you do what most do and reintroduce then it shouldn't be a problem. They will have to establish a new pecking order, which is always a case when adding new members to the flock, even I'd they have been together before.

If you can tell which bird is laying which color eggs, there is no reason to separate them. Let him be a flock master to all of them, hatch just the eggs you want.

Wow, lol, thx for that! ☺️ I totally didn’t think of that, silly me. Still happy I asked this question, seems good to know since chickens are so finicky about the pecking order 😉

Well sometime you can tell, sometimes you can't. Just recently, some one posted eggs to ask, and I got the breed all wrong. But there are ways to put die in the vent to make sure.

Don't make more of a problem in your head. You can reintroduce them now or a later date, and a rooster may actually create a diversion. Just collect eggs from the breeding girls. One breeding can actually last 3 weeks. You can actually check their fertility breaking an egg and looking for a dot with a halo around it. You can see it.
