I brood mine indoors until they have started growing pinfeathers over their shoulders, and then they get to move to a bigger outdoor brooder. At four to five weeks they seem mostly content to be out of the brooder and cuddle up at night. But being inside for longer certainly wouldn't hurt them or you.
The next time your friend tells you something that sounds improbable, tell her someone's wrote gullible on the ceiling and see if she looks up. It may explain a lot.
