My 1 1/2 year old hen silkie just went through a very very heavy moult and on this period she was very weak through it. She was moulting for about a month and she had finally finished it but she is still weak and sits all day. When she does stand she trips often even when getting up. Does anyone think she has a calcium or protein deficiency from her heavy moult?

Hi!

Moulting can take a lot out of a chicken. Silkies in particular are prone to vitamin deficiencies, so I'd definitely put her on some Poultry Cell or Nutri-Drench in her/their water every other day.

Protein helps with their feather growth, among other things. You could give her/them some scrambled eggs, tuna in water, dry cat food, etc., a few times a week. Otherwise, we have our silkies on Kalmbach's Flock Maker crumbles, which is 20% protein, so I don't usually give them much else when they're moulting. Scrambled eggs are already an occasional treat, about once a week.

thank you so much, what deficiencies do you think she could have?

I honestly don't know, as it could be a few or perhaps just weak from not eating enough feed while she was molting. That's why I suggested the vitamins that have several types of vitamins/minerals. If she's not deficient, it's a vitamin boost then.

I just saw @Eggcessive's recommendation, which you could also give to try to target the most probable ones. B-complex would give more of the B's than the liquids I suggested.
