Well my duck has been laying eggs. And I decided to let her sit on them just to see what happens. She hasn’t gone broody so one of my chickens decided to take over on sitting on the eggs.

So the chickens keep sitting even though ducks take longer to incubate? This is good to know. Next summer whoever goes broody first gets to be the incubator!

Definitely depends upon the individual hen. I have never had a hen that was in good health quit a nest. It remains very important to keep an eye on her physical condition and to make sure that the nest does not become mite infested.

AWWW! So cute! :love Just ensure that she is sitting on ONLY duck eggs, because if she is sitting on both chicken and duck eggs that could be a problem because of the different hatching times. Ducks hatch at about 28 days wherein chicks hatch at 21! Good luck, and you definitely need to post pics of the baby ducklings when they hatch! I love seeing mother chicken with their duckling babies lol! Good luck!:thumbsup

I hope they hatch this time. I was looking up homemade incubators on YouTube. I’m not sure how well they work but it’s worth a try.

Do not allow the duck hen access to the nest as she may continue adding eggs which creates the problem of a staggered hatch.
I put dates on the eggs. And I’m planning on making a homemade incubator that I saw on YouTube. This is my first year having any backyard birds. W

Yeh I have been checking the eggs making sure there’s no chicken eggs. Last time my duck laid I had a few chickens laying there eggs with them and I just took them out.

Yep! Goody! Post more pics as they progress! :D
