So, I'm sitting here, in the office, nice slow Sunday afternoon. My black lab who is the self appointed mom of the chickens outside is inside. With me. The birds are free ranging. I got all over her yesterday about staying outside with them, which she normally loves. I have the back door rigged on a closing screen door hinge. She learned to open the door standing on her back feet a long time ago, but the german shepherd hais severe hip displacia and cannot do the same. So, I put a small door block between the door jam and the door. Dogs nudge the door open, it closes automatically.

I stand up to walk Katie back out and one chicken greets me in the hall. Two are in the living room, some in the kitchen and laundry room, the rest in the living room. All exploring and having a wonderful time. Luckly, only found two poos to clean up. But Katie HAD to stand at the door and keep it open in order for the girls to come in. I don't know what they bribed her with to do this, but I'm gonna be more careful in watching...

That must have been a surprise!

So funny! I can just see her at the door saying "Yeah, come on in, it's cooler in here and there is comfy furniture. Can I get you a snack? A beverage?" I can see my labradors doing that. We often say the labs will just ask the burglar if he could set the "cookie" jar on the floor while he loads our few valuables into his car. Our terrier will be hanging on his leg though. Labs, gotta luv 'em!

She's a good guard dog, once people invited in she turns into a sneaky lap dog. She will not let any predators of any kind i the yard. Only afraid of earthquakes, lightening and butterflies. Maybe two butterflies were winging through the yard?

Haha! Thanks for the laugh! In our case, it's my husband who holds the door open and invites the chickens into the kitchen! At least you can lock a dog up...what do I do with the errant husband? (He's bigger than me, so the options are limited!)

Such a sweet story! I love it!! I have to say, I am the one that always lets the chicken in the house, but she's such a nice guest, I don't mind her company:D...my husband, on the other hand, well, he thinks I'm crazy.
