My one hen last afternoon I noticed was standing off to a corner and her comb was a bit purple. I went over and I picked her up and I noticed something was wrong straight away cause she hates people and she barely flinched when I picked her up. I put her in a cage and put some DE in her food and left her to rest.

This morning she seemed a bit worse but just a few hours ago when I went to check on her she was sitting down and her comb was even more purple.

What is wrong with my little girl? I just lost a favourite rooster and I don't want to lose any more...

Can you post a picture of her? Do you have some Nutr-drench to put in her water. Has it been hot. Heat stress can be fatal to chickens. When did she lay last? How is her poop?
I an tomorrow morning. it's been hot but I've been putting plenty of water out.. She could haver not been drinking much though. Yes I lost a hen to the heat a few months ago. :-( I have 46 chickens so it's very very hard to keep track of laying, sorry! Her poop I've seen once recently and it was watery with white.

Can we get a close-up picture of her comb? Purple comb can be indicative of a circulatory or respiratory problem… Not getting enough oxygen. Does she sound rattly when she breathes at all? Is her abdomen bloated with fluid? That would indicate ascites, which can be from organ failure (like heart or liver) or other things (cancer or infection). If there isn’t a direct problem with organs themselves, the site is fluid can press on them, making it harder for her to breathe, etc. Since she is in a fragile state, take care not to stress her out too much, but she does need fluids. Does she have a friend who can come inside with her who will not pick on her?

When was the last time she laid an egg?
Was her crop empty this morning before she had anything to eat or drink?

I would feel her abdomen for any bloat/swelling or feeling of fluid, look her over for lice/mites. Do what you can to keep her hydrated - electrolytes or gatorade are fine for the first 8-24hrs, then switch to poultry vitamins if you have them.

If you have a vet that can perform a fecal float, that's always a good idea too.

With hens, sometimes it's hard to know what's going on with them - so eliminating the most common ailments like worms, reproductive disorders and crops issues is usually the place to start.

Yes I can get it in a minute. Her breathing seems normal. How do I check that? Yes I could grab a friend for her.
