While searching my kitchen to find my girls their little “midnight snack” tonight, I was stuck; grocery delivery is tomorrow night so tonight’s cupboards are bare. Then I opened my freezer and realized that I may have struck gold with those expensive delivery smoothies I ordered months ago and are now taking up space in the back of my freezer. Some of them are obviously no-no’s (the coffee ones, etc)...but what about something like this Cucumber & Greens? The ingredients are not blended yet so they can peck at individual frozen fruits or veggies. I’m attaching a pic of the ingredients...is there anything in here that they can NOT have?

They can have everything listed.

Some may not like the lemon but it is not poisonous to them.
I’ve read quite a bit about their general aversion to citrus. It’s funny, ALL of my girls go nuts over a ChikFilA fruit salad (mostly the blueberries & strawberries), but about half of them love the mandarin oranges and the other half won’t even give them as much as a second look. The lemon will be interesting to see, I don’t think there’s much lemon in the smoothie tho. I was worried about the ginger & turmeric.....

Ginger and tumeric are fine for chickens! It also boost their immune systems almost like it would for you! I find it adorable that they like the ChickFilA fruit salad.

It is totally adorable. They’ve come to recognize the clear plastic container & the fruit inside and it’s an all out race to be at the front of the line. If we’re sitting together instead of me reaching over the side of the brooder trough then all 12 will be gathered in front of me just staring. As soon as they hear the container kinda pop open, then it’s a no holds barred free for all and I’ve literally got 12 3 week old chicks piled into my lap! ChikFilA fruit salads are my favorite quality moments with my girls and really are super cute & totally entertaining!!

Just be very careful not to give to many treats.
Treats tend to be low in protein and can throw their nutritional balance off if given to much.

A dozen at 3 weeks....I would not be handing out more than a 1/2 cup of treats and even that is really pushing the top end.

That’s so cute. They know what’s up, I love how they start attaching certain noises and things with treats or things that interest them. Smart little birds! Hearing about your little moments with your girls makes me so excited to get my new girls! They’re arriving around June 25th! Hope you keep enjoying your chicks!

They only get treats at night after they’ve been free eating all day and finished pecking at their night time feeder replenishment. It’s not every single night and get probably one quartered strawberry and 5-7 blueberries for all 12 to play Keep-Away with. Most nights I crush up dried mealworms, feed some by hand and let them “forage” for the rest in their play sand & DE dust bath spa. They eat plenty of play sand to get their grit. Girl, I must’ve read for DAYS about treats, grit, ratio of food to treats, etc, etc. I was dying to treat them, but was sure I’d do it wrong and sicken them. I still don’t know a lot, but I’ve definitely done research, haha!
