My 23 week old Ameraucana sounds like she is snorning with every breath. No loss of energy or appetite.
Just started late this afternoon.
She is noticably making noise with every in and out breath. Every now and then she does the loud PIP! noise. She does not appear to be congested in any way I recognize but what do I know about chicken lungs!
She was carrying around a feather eariler.
I will catch her in an hour or so when she gets on the roost.
I'm assuming you will say to bring her in and isolate her so I have a dog crate ready for her.
I do not have any chicken anitbiotics
what should I look for?
what should I do for her?
what kind of medicine?

I wish I had great advice for you. But all I can say is that I had that happen to my GLW after I added a few more pullets. She screamed for a couple days at the newcomers, then started sounding like you describe wheezing with each breath. I brought her inside for a week and threw everything I had at her. Anti-biotics, V & Es, probiotics, high protein treats. Basically I did anything cause I had no idea what to do. She made a complete recovery, and I still have her. A couple days after I returned her to the coop my Black Australorp started the same thing. I brought her inside immediately to do the same thing and she died died in the kitchen on the way to the spare room. To this day I have no idea what happened. I'm guessing some underlying disease with the new pullets, although all 3 are still with me and have never been sick, or stress from the new additions and change. Good luck

Hmmm, no new additions to my coop. The only change is her best friend laid her first egg yesterday. She was not wheezing at noon when I collected eggs but was when I got there to let them out an hour before sunset.
She ran around, ate all the treats.
I have her inside in a crate now. I put some vitamin water and layer crumbles in with her. She is wheezing away.
I'll go to the feed store tomorrow to see if they have any antibotics to give her. What should I ask for?
I wrapped her in a towel and looked down her throat. I do not see anything blocking her airway. She did not love it and did not say 'ahhhh'
Thanks for the input. She's my only Ameraucana. I really hope she makes it.

I have her in my bedroom.
I have 3 boxes of new chicks I have hatched in another room. Central Heat and Air
Do I need to worry that she is going to infect them all? If so I'll just treat the whole coop and let her stay out there.
Advice?

You will need to keep an eye on the whole flock, mine starting happened samething and it affected one bye one. I have to cure the whole flock, have some Amprol, Duramycin and Tylan 50 on hand. To preventing from spreading, give them Amprol or Duramycin water soluble now, hope it helps

Ok. Can I get that at the feed store?

My Ameraucana is not breathing hard or 'snoring' this morning. Ate her crumbles etc.
No idea what's going on.

I really appreciate the input.

Ok, she stopped sounding like that in the night. No breathing issues this morning. I checked the chickens in the coop and none of them have any issues so I put her back in with them. I'll add vitamins to all their water and see what happens.
thanks
