Chicken squat :)

Here's an ok picture of one of mine doing the squat.

She kind of squats down and sticks her butt up in the air like a cat looking to be petted with her wings tensed and out to the side. She'll sometimes stomp from one foot to the other real fast as she starts, almost like she's dancing.

It's funny, she won't stop until I ruffle her feathers up and pet her for a bit.

From the pictures everyone posted here, looks like what my chickens do when someone pets them. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for posting this! Helped me! I had the same question.

Yep. That's exactly what it looks like. Knees bent. Wings slightly open. And if you give them a good scratch between the wings, they will usually walk away and ruffle up all their feathers and give good shake.

omgoodness! mine walk off and ruffle their feathers too, but at only 9 weeks???
hmm maybe there early bloomers? these are my 1st and only chickens ever.

Exactly!!! After stumbling accross the first one of mine to do it, I purposely go out and chase the others down to try and get them to submit to me! I got my second hen to squat for me yesterday evening.
They will freeze, squat, pat their feet on the ground to brace themselves, slightly spread their wings, and tell you to jump on.

I give mine a good scratch on the back, then watch them ruffle their feathers and make some gawd awful low pitch grovel noise.
They do not squat and walk at the same time.....THEY FREEZE.
You'll know it when you see it!!! Promise!!

I got a video of Duchess doing the squat! It's semi-decent.. not the greatest quality.. But hopefully it'll help you see what you're looking for.
