I have a chicken who was laying about a month ago. She laid pretty light brown/ pink eggs for about 4 days straight and then just stopped and she hasn’t laid since. I thought it might be stress because we had 3 roosters in with 14 pullets and the roosters had started fighting. I separated the three roosters and the next day...an egg! But it was a deeper brown so I don’t think it’s from the same bird.
Also, being uneducated in the ways of chickens, (these are my first) I had them on 24 hr light in the coop to keep it warm. I realize now this is a mistake and I have a timer but I haven’t set it up yet. The day before she stopped laying the light went out for a short period of time. Do you think any of these things could’ve stopped her from laying for so long or is there something else going on?
As a side note, how can I decrease the light in their coop without stressing them out too much? Can I just program the timer to 16 hrs of light or should I do this gradually. Thanks for your help!
