Call me funny if you want, but I take a head count "12 total" every morning to make sure everybody made it through the nite. Well this morning I had to count 3 times and came up with "13" everytime. Thinking to myself that can't be right, so everybody went out in the run and I counted as they went back into the coop. Sure enough 13. I have no idea where it came from, I checked with people around me and nobody was missing any. It appears to be a red sex link or red star whatever you want to call them and I am guessing its roughly a year old. Went to collect eggs this afternoon and there was a odd looking brown egg with small brown specks on it. I guess the new hen settled in and went right to work. The only way it could have gotten in there was for somebody to open the gate to the coop. Does anybody think that I should seperate this hen from the rest of my flock or let her be??

Normally I would separate, but if she has already spent a day with your girls, and no fighting, leave her be. But be alert for parasites and worms.

Since she has already been around your birds they have been exsposed to whatever she may have so
keep a close watch!!

How entertaining! I wish someone would come play that trick on me

I thought about the whole parasite and worm thing after I found her this morning, she is eating and drinking fine and has picked a nest box to call her own. Everybody is getting along fine as of now. It figures though I had a game camera on the back of the run about a week ago trying to find out what was digging next next to it. Caught the neighbors dog and he had a good conversation with my foot and hasnt been back. Checked the camera and no pictures of the prankster because the battery was dead. I did put a new battery in there and maybe they will come back to pay me another visit...
