My chicken swallowed my pearl earring! I came in terms with not getting my earring back without a lot of damage but I am REALLY nervous about the post hurting her!!!!

It was a big pearl and the stem seems a bit sharper than the average one.

Shes my pet and one of only two so she is dear to me and killing her is not to be mentioned please.

Anyone? I am nervous and want to know if there is something i should do ASAP

If you are that concerned, take her to an avian vet. If you don't want to do that, you will just have to watch her and take action if she stops eating... Not much to do without an xray and even then, will they preform surgery? Probably not...

Wish I had one near by..... Im sorry I dont know anything about chickens. If it stays in her, acting as a rock.... does it stay in forever or are they eventually passed?

Most likely, it will pass... Make sure you keep an eye on the feeding, in fact, feed her a little more. sometimes that helps animals pass things.

Unfortunately, chickens seem to have pica; they'll pick up and swallow ANYTHING of interest. It's disgusting and frustrating. My roo found a piece of plastic wrap that some lout threw by the road a few days ago and had it down the hatch before I could get to him and stop him. It came out the other end eventually and he's fine.

An earring's a bit worrisome because of the post, which COULD puncture something that it shouldn't. If you have the ability, I'd at least call a vet that's knowledgeable about chickens and talk to them. I doubt they can do much besides x-ray and surgery, but they may have some idea for helping them pass it through without causing harm. Then again, you can always watch and wait and be vigilant. Any change in behavior, from lethargy to lack of appetite and you may need to get him to a vet or have some sort of plan.

I'm so sorry this happened to you (and your bird). And I'm sorry I have nothing to offer except sympathy b/c I would not know what to do if I were in your shoes.

I assume you have her confined so you can check her droppings to see if it's passed.

Good luck w/ it. Man, these birds can really grab our hearts.

Well my three month old pullet "Olive" did the same thing. I am sick about the whole thing. The pearl earring can be replaced but I am more worried about what it will do to her insides? Will she pass this or will it stay in her crop? I have a call into my avian vet but I thought would follow up with this story and see if there was a happy ending?
