this is my japanese pullet with her foster parents. she is about 5 months old and tiny. her real dad is a black tailed white japanese and the mom is a mottled japanese. these 3 really love each other so I have kept them together. the baby is almost always under one of the adults which makes it difficult to get a good picture of her.

this is the pair I have been collecting hatching eggs from.

I will not be posting on BYC anymore. Today i got home and Macbeth, my legbar rooster is missing. This was a two legged predator as he is the only bird missing and there is no way out of the pen. It is someone local and who knows me from BYC because they knew to look for a crocked toe rooster. It has been fun but this makes me very uncomfortable. I posted those pictures 2 days ago and it worries me that someone would do such a thing and violate my personal life and space in this way. Good luck to all with their chicken endeavors but this really disgusts me and worries me that I have left myself open to such a thing and invited someone into my life with smiles that was a thief. Hopefully Karma bites them on the behind. I will definitely be changing how I operate from here on in.

Wow I am so sorry to hear that and that is super scary. I get nervous all the time posting pics and such, but many of us never really think anything will happen. I do tell my husband all the time I want my birds under lock and key(even though they arent any spectacular breeds) but I love them and he thinks Im absurd for thinking that way. He says why would someone steal a chicken or a turkey? Well obviously some people are awful. Im sorry for your loss and for the intrusion of your private home life. I hope all is well for you in the future

I sure do hope that Karma comes back around and kicks them a good one!

So sorry! :(

It turns out that this was not 'real' someone was trying to make a point they had been stressing to me.  It has shook me up a bit but all is really okay.

Whether intending to steal or "just making a point," that is NOT ok. I am astounded someone would think that's a good idea.
I'm just beyond words at how childish and malicious doing something like that is.
Unbelievable.

I just lost the little crested cream legbar cockerel that puglady (? I think?) hatched and I got from Janet - nothing contagious, just one of those chicken things where they have no symptoms but decide to not thrive. We'd been jollying him along for a couple of weeks, separated and under heat, wormed and Baycoxed and so on, but this morning I found him unable to stand well and I put him down (we humanely euthanize with CO2). We're MEGA bummed. He was one of the real favorites.

If anyone has a well-crested CCL cockerel they'd like to put in a good no-kill home, please let me know. I have two beautiful big boys from blackbirds13, who have everything I want but the crest, and I don't need or really care about the desirable light blonde color or unfolded comb, so I'm more than happy with a "cull" cockerel as long as it has a good crest. I plan on using him to make colored-egg sizzles.
