Grey is napping right now. he is preparing to plow snow for the state. as soon as it starts they call in all his trucks and off he goes. it is not unusual for him to be gone for a day or so. I am excited about having new locations too.

I will tell him you were asking.

There is a big ole racoon hanging around here today. He slept in the tree behind the garage for most of the day and when Donny went to let the dogs out tonight they were face to face. It was up on the dog pen. We keep the dog pens covered with one of the panels of the chain link pens. The dog let Donny know it was there.

Does it look normal...ok? Is it young maybe adolescent just away from its other next mates??

It slept in the tree all day yesterday. Last night it came down and I guess when Donny took the dogs out he scared if from the top of the dog pens up the big ole tree in the neighbors yard. He said he thought it was a baby but he was huge. I guess he just got scared up the tree when he let the dogs out about 5-5:30 yesterday morning. He didn't try to attack him or the dogs so I don't think it was sick but not sure.

I used to think they were cute until one living in the top of our hay barn tested possitive for rabies. Now they are not allowed to live anywhere near the barns or even on this side of our farm.

But long before there was rabies here - you would see the "younger" ones when you should not be seing nocturnal animals -

That's what bothered me. Why was it in a tree where everyone could see it instead of a pine tree where it is hidden? That is what made me think the dogs might have scared it up the tree. It seems to be gone this morning so hopefully we won't see him again. I was afraid it was after the chickens in the garage. I would be heartbroked if I lost the few I have left.

It looks to be sleeping. I had a rabid skunk in the yard a few years back. It was walking all around with no real rhyme or reason. It also came up to my sun room door and bit the metal part of the stairs. It finally took off but scared the crap outta me!

She's hatching the cutest Bantams in the world.

Anybody interested in some cockerels (free) that could go in the stew pot? I have two Dorkings (one silver grey, one colored) and one heritage RIR that need to leave. The Dorkings were going to go with my EEs to create dual-purpose birds but I am going in a different direction, and I don't have the guts to do the killing. The boys are between three and four months old and HUGE; Dorkings and RIR put on frame before muscle so they're not heavy yet but if you wanted to let them grow up another month or two they'd make quite a roaster or they'd be fine fryers now. The Dorkings are four-toed so not showable but they're going to be magnificent roosters if somebody was looking to cross-breed something. They're NOT aggressive, they're healthy, no mites, and I can worm them before they leave. We're in Plaistow but would happily meet someone at a reasonable halfway point.
