I hope you get a little break too.

I know how you feel. this winter has almost been like living alone again greg has been gone so much.

I hope you all get some rest. Better yet I hope we don't have any more storms.
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!

April,
I have a bunny question. does the mom stay in the nest box with the babies or does she just go in to feed them?

OOOhhh do you have babies already?

Yes. mom just goes in to feed them. All the fluff she pulled should keep them warm...even this time of year. you may not even see her in there. you can tell they are eating if their bellies are nice an fat when you check on them.

Let me know if I can help.

thanks april. she gave birth last sunday. I am afraid to upset her so I don't know how many she has. I moved the fur a little the other night and saw a pinkie wiggling and put the fur back. it was the really cold night we had. I pointed a brooder light at the box that night. only a 40 watt bulb. they are very good quality pedigreed lionheads. this is a first for me so I am very nervous.

The only thing would suggest is that you should do a quick check just to be sure there are no dead ones in there. I know that if there was one born dead or if one died after in can contaminate the nest and risk the others. You can bring the nest box in if mom will allow it. or heat a towel in the dryer and have some one help you. take them all out of the next quickly one at a time. Check them over quick. Check the whole nest to be sure nothing needs to be removed or cleaned. Then put them right back.

Is this a first time mom? How does she feel about you being in there?

I am going to check today as soon as it warms up. this is her second litter. the first was only 2. I had her bred when I bought her. I have only had her 5 weeks. I have been patting her daily. she does not shy away from me at all.
