I have had the same problem....and I was hoping and praying that because I had more unusual breeds, that I would be more successful in finding them homes where they could be roosters. We I feel very fortunate that I was able to find "rooster" homes for 4 cochin roosters. However, a maran, a cochin and a barnevelder roosters have not been so fortunate. I don't have thick skin and I really wanted to find them homes and not a dinner plate.

I tried everything short of going to chicken swaps...they have either been too far away or I have had conflicts with the ones closer to home. Oh well...all we can do is the best we can do. I know that the roosters we can't rehome, had a good life while they were here....fresh air...the outdoors and love and respect....something their production bird counterparts never got!

Good luck!!!

Great meeting all the chicken swap people today

Does anyone know the name of the lady that sells the lion lops and lion head bunnies in Tilton at the swaps? I need to get in touch with her about aquiring one of her bunnies if she still has it. She usually has her daughter and grandchildren come see her at the swaps. I think it begins with a "C", Cheryl, Cathy??????? But I could be wrong.

Thanks for all the great advice. I can't make this weekend's Tilton swap - taking the kid to the circus in Hudson that day. But I see there's one in July so perhaps then (been stocking up on cages and boxes...just in case) Will look into the Methuen option and the PM about Keene (thanks!). Really don't want to have to knock them of myself but if I go by all those seemingly glowing red combs on my Ameraucana's I see a lot of chicken soup in my DH's future. This chicken math is horrible. I'm alreay thinking of what else I want to get this year and next.
Perhaps I'll give craigslist a constant go for a month or so...

I saw the post about a swap in Tilton on Saturday is there one on Sunday this weekend? I have yet to make it to a swap but am hoping to be able to this weekend. Thanks.

Let me know how the MSPCA thing works out if you call for info. I'm not sure of you have ever visited there but in the past several years they have invested alot of money in there facilities. Just this past year they demolished the old ramshacked poultry barn and now have a beautiful nice new set up for poultry. I actually was thinking about getting some hens there myself to start my first flock as they had quite an abundance of them early in the spring but my coop wasn't ready yet and then by the time May came they were mostly all gone. I was advise to put myself on a waiting list but then I found out about the NH swaps. I had adopted my dog there 8 years ago back when the kennel was an old asphalt run kennel area. Their new set up is so beautiful it almost makes it hard to feel bad for the dogs they have up for adoption. It's like a hotel for dogs! They have made great strides there. What type of circus is in Hudson this weekend. I will have to do a search for that!

I adopted several chickens from them (MSPCA) over 6 years ago. I use to live not far from there and love what they do for the community and the animals in need. The place is beautiful now and they have many exciting fundraisers every year. I had a great choice of all ages and breeds and ended up getting very nice OEG birds
