Also, Please remember that Mareks Vaccines are not 100% guaranteed, The company that makes it states it is 90% effective.
Good Luck with your bird, if he survives the first attack, he/she can live a productive life, but will always be wobbly, and a risk to your other unvaccinated chicks.

3 out of 4 chicks got it. One died, one was put down, one is still able to walk a bit. That seems much lower than 90% effectiveness, in my opinion. Yes we were told these chicks were vaccinated, but maybe proof needs to start being shown. Can he provide proof of vaccination? If not, I wouldn't let him sell.

You also might want to address the MITE issue with him, as I have received several PMs from people who said they also bought from this man and had mites on their chicks. I'm sorry, but I am just livid! I thought a swap was supposed to be a safe environment in which to purchase chickens from.

I don't see how the people that run the swaps can go through every single bird to check for mites, merecks proof etc... I personally check the birds I buy from swaps for mites and obvious ickys before I purchase them. You cant see something like merecks at a glance unless they are symtomatic of course but some of the other things that could be wrong with a bird that you are purchasing you, as the buyer, should be covering your own butt and inspecting any bird you are planning on bringing home.

Not that it makes it stink any less that you had something like that happen, it really just proves again how important it is to quarantine any new editions. I am so glad to know that you follow that procedure and didnt infect your flock with whatever it ended up being. Even birds I buy from breeders that i frequently purchase from go into birdy jail when they get home.....no problems yet from swap birds happy to say

I personally have met a good portion of the frequent vendors at the swap and cant immagine any of them would knowingly sell a sick bird. Everyone that I have dealt with have done good business and would recomend any of them to fellow chicken people.

Yes, The rain held off until we got home. We hit a quick shower but that was it. Once we got home and let the dogs out it started thundering and lightning. It gave us just enough time for the dogs to do their job and get them back in before it let go. Got very windy also.
We had a very good day at the swap. Sold alot of chicks. We stopped at Poor Boys for lunch on the way home and had a nice seafood platter.
Will see everyone next week at Chichester.

Yes, I don't know if you remember but I used to work at Poor Boys many moons ago.
The food was really good. It has been awhile since we have eaten there.
