CHICKEN SWAPS OF NH SWAP LISTINGS

Quote: This is very true! NPIP is good for the diseases the State wants to test for and track. NPIP is great to be able to sell/swap. But there are so many other things that almost all backyard flocks have that are not routinely tested for. A lot of which are unavoidable due to being carried and transmitted by wild birds.

Quarantine is a must! Be aware that there are many of those things that keesmom listed that birds will be carriers of regardless of quarantine.

My point is that a "tested" flock is really only a limited assurance at best.

Greetings...
It's been awhile since I attended a swap. Seems like most good things, its getting more gov't regulated and expensive. I'm sure its for good reason.
I've been busy kicking cancers *** since thanksgiving. It's been Lots of riding to and from Dartmouth etc. So in the mean time I lost some birds. Many to my neighbors dogs, some to cold and my ducks flew away.
So now I am healthy, (5yrs b4 its garunteed), the nieghbor fenced his dogs and I bought a shotgun. So I am ready to rebuild my bird population.
I'm curious if at the upcoming Plymouth meet anyone will have pheasants, turkeys or other coolness.

I hope your sick girls are doing better. After reading your post and that of DraigAthar I became concerned about our girls developing this illness. This morning I woke at 4:15 to check on the flock and all but the black Austraulorp greeted me. She did not leave her perch until 8:am which is very odd for her. I had read all I could last evening about sour crop and how to ameliorate it. So today we cleaned up the coop very well and moved it to a new spot of fresh lawn. I sanitized the watering dish and added raw cider vinegar to the fresh water. Then I helped "Ella" to vomit a few times. She has no interest in food but is drinking lots of water. My husband is setting up a quaranteen cage now. I really hope that we caught it in time.

MeandSpoof, are you in the upper valley? I'm curious to know about this, where it is happening and who else it experiencing it. I will cross my fingers for your Ella! My two birds died very quickly, it was ~24 hours from onset of symptoms until they were gone. But I have a third bird who has been acting lethargic now since Sunday. He is eating and drinking but still standing around ruffled most of the time. I am keeping a close eye on him. Be careful with the cider vinegar, depending on the actual situation in the crop (acidic or basic) it may make matters worse.
