Chicken talk

What a sweet flock!

I have the book "How to Speak Chicken," but I think some of my girls speak a different language -- or a least a different dialect! Especially since most of them have distinctively different vocalizations. I don't need to turn around to see if it's one of the Salmon Faverolles or my Speckled Sussex yelling at me, for instance.

Welcome to BYC; I hope we can help you "translate" what your girls are saying!

I am new to having pet chickens. One ISA BROWN, Black Australorp. and (probably) Black Olive Egger. I am having fun caring for them. I would like to hear chickens recordings and what the talk means.
Welcome to BYC!! Happy Halloween!
Chickens will usually have just a normal, calm cluck and squawk, and when they lay an egg, they cluck really loud and quickly. The alarm is the same as the egg song, except they’re alert, and looking all around, usually hiding.

Hello, it's nice to have you here with us!

P.S. That was me that reviewed the book "How to Speak Chicken". It was interesting but it would most likely be more informative to hear actual recordings of chicken vocalizations, rather than just reading about them. :)
I just got the book. Flipped through it but it's hard to read text on chicken sounds. I thought audio would be fun.

I think I am going to record the sounds and get people to tell me how they interpret the meaning. I recognize most of the sounds that I need to know.
