Post any tips you have acquired over the years in managing your chicken flock.

My best tip would be to keep the chicken food in the coop. That's really the worst problem I've had with chickens. I used to keep the food out in the run, they would spill it, and it would collect on the ground, get wet and stinky! HORRIBLE!

So now chicken feed is kept inside the coop, and I have the feeders sitting up on crates so they are at beak level. There is hardly any waste this way because they can't get their feet in there and scratch it all out.

This saves me alot of work, and also saves me money!

I'll go with & this is if you free range your flock. Get a good roo. I use to spend hours supervising my flock now I let Freddy do it. He's no guarantee but he is the guardian to his girls.

anyone else? I'll add one, you can put a golf balls in the nest for young chicks to get used to laying in them.

A good solid fence completely over the top run, sometimes you need to lock your chickens in. And a thing that has worked well for me is an inconsistant routine, as in sometimes I let them free range at 7:00, sometimes 1:00, somethines 10:00 and sometimes not at all. Keeps the predators from hanging out waiting for a freebie.
