I have a chicken with an impacted crop. I have her in her own section of the coop, but I don't want her getting bored because she can't eat. Most of the toys I have for the hens involve food. Any ideas for a non-food toy? I know some like bells. Thanks!

Maybe a tennis ball to peck at? She might try and sit on it if she's broody.

If she is ill she probably will be trying to rest so I would not worry about toys much.

Maybe I'll try a tenis ball. Conglomerate(the hen) is by no means resting. She's been trying to get out of her little fenced off area to be with her friends. She's not broody though so that's ok. She should be resting though. Thanks! :)

Take a box of screws/nails, make sure it's half empty so it rattles more, tape the top shut, and put it in her run. Not sure exactly why, but my hen loves playing with screw boxes and is so interested in the sound. We figured this one out when we she was "helping" with our coop building. Of course, I never leave her unsupervised with it.

Thanks a ton! It's a great idea. My chicken has been so stressed out something to do should calm her down.

I have a few parrots and they love the cause and affect of hitting the bell with their beak and getting the little "ding" out of it. I think most chickens would like it too. Some birds also love chew toys - like a couple branches tied onto a string.
