Hi, newbie chicken keeper here. So I have 4 8-week old pullets who moved into the coop a couple weeks ago and are doing well. With that I’m looking for ideas on a tractor or cage to set up in my yard. We have a 12x4 run attached to their coop but I can imagine they might want more space as they age. I do live in an urban setting with neighbors so I’m really hesitant to let them just free range so they don’t hop into neighbors yards. Does anyone have ideas or experience with something to put in my yard that could be additional space for them but keep them contained that worked well? Thanks!

We made a “hoop” design with cattle panels inside a wooden frame. We covered it with hardware cloth, added a door with a latch and hangers for feed/water. We are going to add wheels but can pull it with the lawn mower with the attached cable. It took a day for three of us to complete. Something could dig under it with enough time but it is quite heavy so they couldn’t just lift under it easily. We put our chickens in it when we want them contained to a specific space now but used it more before they had a run. I am hoping to cover it with clear plastic and set it over the end of my garden this fall to extend my growing season a bit. Don’t know if that will work but going try!
