I have 2 white giants and need to get them moved outside as they are about 2 months old now. I came up with a chicken tractor design that would be 3' wide x 3' tall and 6' long with a with a shelter on the end measuring 2' front to back, 3' wide and 3' tall in the front sloping to 30' tall in the rear. This probably won't be perminate but it may have to take them to their full grown weight and height. This design would give them 12sqft each whick is much more than they have now with only about 3 sqft each. Judging from what I have read this new pen will be sufficiant but I wanted to ask for input from my good freinds here on byc, before I start building this thursday I hope to have them all settled in by sunday.

ETA: any sugestions as to what size door to put on my shelter for them? right now the larger one is about the size of a full grown old english bantam roo

Sounds like it will be adequate to finish out their growing.
I usually make doors for that size of bird about 12" wide and at least 16 if not 18" tall. They will grow into it and then some.
Good luck and have fun!

I was thinking 10" wide by 18" tall when they are full grown so it sound like I was close, but the thought of starting with a smaller door and cutting it larger as they grow had also crossed my mind. I want them to be comfortable going in and out but I also want the box to offer as much protection as possible. I'm well aware of all the dangers that will surround them and with only 2 birds I'm a little nervous to move them, as the pen will be at a freinds 8 miles away, but they are getting older bigger and smellier and I can't have them in my house any longer. Besides they need to go out and be chickens and scratch in the grass and soak up rays.
