Chicken tractor I'm building

I have to big doors on the back for cleanout and feeding. and the roof will be hinged for lifting.

I also have some wheels I am going to attach to make it easier to move. I know I made it big and heavy, But I wanted to provide a good amount of room for the chickens.

The local hatchery (Fenton feed mill) has Pullets, New Hampshire and white rocks already sexed. I am thinking about getting a few different types. We get some Hot summers and Cold winters. I understand the NH do good in both.

I would order online but the kids are so looking forward to picking some out.

A light eh. Is this nececary? What about a "Sun roof" ?

Welcome to the site. A couple more places you might check for chicks are Bucheits in Herky or Windy Hill Feed in Cedar Hill. We get some of our replacement chicks at Windy Hill and our birds hatch out a few every now and then. Our initial flock came from Bucheits on one of my wifes whims.
We live in Cedar Hill and already had dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, peacocks and emus, so her bringing home chickens wasn't too much of a problem.
Good luck with your new hobby and if you need to discuss anything just PM me.

Well, We went looking for chicks today, and the feed mill was out. All they had were 8 week olds. they were having another load on the 30th. The kids and wife over ruled me so we picked 3 of these up. Two black sex Links and a Rhoad Isalnd Red. I am going get two chicks when they come in so the kids can still enjoy the little fuzz balls.

Thanks for all the help and sugestions on the coop. I will be posting mor in other forums.

Ah Markb, I see you did the PVC pipe feeder. How was is to do? Hopefully you are happy with it.

If you are looking for chicks in the future, check your local Craigslist too.

Looks good. Now start enjoying those birds? How old are they?

Yeah the PVC feeder looked like a nice option. Fairly easy to build, cutting the feeder part open was the tricky part, i used a table saw, was probably the wrong way.

I checked craigslist, even posted a WTB and only gone once response from a place 2 hours away.

Kids had a lot of fun tonight. I open they stay interested!
