Chicken Tractor

here's a tractor I recently made and sold for $150.00

Its completely stained for the weather. Large easy to move wheels. Next box from a Tidy Cat Litter box, it removable from the top hinged lid. Little ramp rests on the litter container handle and comes out easy for moving tractor. Door on other end. Two perches. Should hold up to 6 hens comfortably. The lady who bought it from me has a hen setting on 8 eggs and she wants her to be able to raise them protected from the rest of the flock. The pattern was in a magazine recently on shelves in TSC. This is the 2nd one I've made from the pattern, but I embelished mine a little more each time. Very easy to do. Made by a woman. I enjoyed doing it.

We just built 2, 8' x 4' A frame tractors for 10 chicks each. Everything but the wire was repurposed materials & took two of us about 5 hours to build with no real plans. The wheels & handle have to be added yet & will stain or oil the wood.

Just had a thought that may help. If not there's always the delete button

. Try designing your tractor with 1 1/2 PVC. It is lightweight and could be moved quite easily especially with wheels added on the end. Hope it works out.

That is a good idea! I made a milk stand for my goats with pvc pipe which worked pretty good except my ornery nanny broke one of the pipes by pulling & charging forward trying to get out. :(

Tractor is still good as new. But, I don't think it is quite big enough for all 6, now that they are fully grown. And it is pretty heavy to move. I would recommend 2x2's if I had them. But, I had to use what I had lying around. Good Luck.

Thanks for the response! Kinda what I was thinking. I have 8 LF that I want to make a tractor for. I like your tractor. But I was thinking of making one 8'x6' or a Salatin style 8x8. Im going to rip some 2x4's in half and hopefully be able to use skids instead of wheels to move it around. Im thinking 10- 2x4's and 2 sheets of ply/OSB will still be pretty heavy no matter how you cut them up and put them together though. Ha! Will try and post pics when I finish..

Where is Chelsea, MI? I used to live in MI back in the day. Moved in 78 back to TN. Lived in Mt Clemens. Graduated from Rosevill HS. Long ago
