Yeah, they a "sort" chickens. We raised a batch that didn't get to range. We tried
to let them but they weren't all that interested.

I agree about the taste, definately better than the store. Try the Colored Range Broliers.
Since you have a sensative pallet you will be amazed.

What did the one with teeth taste like?

I'm probably ordering this year's first batch mid March, so they will be out of the brooder and into the tractor by mid April, and I'm going to put the tractor out in my garden, and by mid May, when there's no more frost danger, my soil should be great for planting.

Any more specifics on this book? I'd never heard of it before, but it sounds pretty good. Check out Salatin's "Pastured Poultry Profits," for a great book about raising in moveable pens.

Jeff... I am positive that the squab raisers would LOVE to claim them as their own. But alas... just who is raising 1200 at a time of these super duper pooper pigeons and passing them off to customers as free range chickens at 42 days of age and making a tidy profit doing it? FESS UP !!!

I've read this book and the one call Day Range Poultry which expands the chicken tractor concept to a small business. Chicken Tractor is for hobbyists or small scale, and I think it's interesting. However, it's an entry level book. Spending time here on BYC, you get more information on feed, breeds, illnesses, etc than half the chapters of the book. Plus, it also spends half the book selling the concept of raising a small flock to enhance your soil. Like I said, I believe in the concept, but I was hoping for more details. Maybe I am making it more complicated than it is. Put chickens in tractor, move tractor, plant stuff...

All in all, a good read or something to pass around to your non-chicken friends to convert them. But not really enough "meat" for me.

I had Salatin's book, but I lost it in the move and need to get a new one. Thanks for the tip.
