Chicken Tractors?

I have very few stationary coops. I have about 12 tractors.
All of my birds move along with the tractor pretty well. They are grabbing at the new grass and chasing new bugs or wanting to see what is new all together. DH did push too fast on one of our 10X10's and the roo got a broken spur. He felt really bad and has slowed down. Our big tractors just are so easy to move once we put the wheels on that he forgot to give the birds time. We can put the wheels on and move the 10X10 in about 6 minutes.
The birds haven't any trouble as long as you don't get in a hurry. They really go after the new ground.
You can see all our designs on my BYC page or my website.

Awww...implying those of us who had an incident are lacking somehow!

At our house, the teen boy was supposed to be watching the back wall, and I was pulling SLOWLY by hand from the front (which is wire so they can see out), and even with all that care, one of the Welsummer cockerels got a leg caught and scraped up before the teen boy noticed him and shouted out. Even with great care, sometimes these things will happen. We all felt bad enough when it happened, and used the opportuinty to learn some things about chicken group behavior and ways to deal with injuries.

Point is, as you state, it is pretty rare, most birds learn to move along at the front of the tractor cause that is where all the good stuff is.

I think the OP will have good luck with a bottomless tractor and moving it slowly with the birds in it. OP will probably never squish a leg now that they have had all these warnings.

Good luck with the new project! Birds love being out on grass and the droppings are so much easier to deal with. Tractors have been wonderful for us.
