Chicken treats

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I mostly let them find their own. But they get over ripened grape tomatoes from my garden during the growing season, frozen blueberries and peas during extreme heat and 3 small handfuls of birdseed/mealworm scratch daily to get them out of my way when I'm cleaning the poop boards.

Good morning chicken lovers I'm just curious as to what everyone gives their birds as a treat. I give mine watermelon 🍉 or mealworms. Just looking for other great ideas to keep my 25 girls happy 😊.
It's Spring in NZ and more like Summer in Napier some days already (up to 28C!) so I tried my girls with frozen corn scattered on the lawn and they love it! 😁

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

I raise/breed show silkies, so I have to be mindful that they get their nutrition, and tend to be stingy on treats. Some free range, so it's even more important as they're filling up on grasses and bugs. That said, they're on Kalmbach's Flock Maker, and their scratch is Kalmbach's Henhouse Reserve.

Other than that, it's just a few things, especially Kale, from the garden in season, and occasionally scrambled duck eggs. About once a month, there may be leftover pasta or rice, and those I toss with a few drops of Poultry Cell vitamins, so at least there's some nutrition in those.

We're glad you're here!
