Hi,
I have a year old bantam frizzle hen who has lost a lot of weight and now can't keep her balance to walk. She tends to fall to the side or back. I was going to put her down, but her eyes are clear and when I put her on the grass she perked up. She can keep her head up. I have given her water. She will swallow when I put her beak in the water. I am planning on giving her some Gatorade this afternoon. She is pecking at the grass and soil. She has eaten some of her pellets and scratch I put in front of her. Any ideas. None of the other chickens are sick.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Surprise, surprise! After a couple of injections of penicillin, hand watering and extra attention the hen is walking again. Doing well. It took almost a week. It will be interesting to see how she does in the future.

I'm wondering about an inner ear infection. I have one hen who is still wobbly and off balance after a year, but is fine otherwise. I just consider her my "special needs" girl!

How wobbly and off balance? I have a 6 week old chick like that and it worries me, but everything else seems ok... its encouraging that your hen have lasted so long with special needs.

Just another update on my frizzle hen. She continues to improve and is laying an egg a day.
