I'm looking to begin with 8-10 day old chickens next spring. After reading on the types of chickens, based off behavior characteristics, would a variety of barred plymouth rock, australorp, faverolle, cochin bantam, silkie bantam, easter egger, and potentially buff orpington be ok together (given enough room), even with the variety of sizes? Are there any types anyone would recommend against within that variety? Thank you for any input!

:welcome When raised together from chicks bantams tend to hold their own with larger birds. Not certain what would happen if they all were slightly older. Silkies, cochins and faverolles are generally very mellow birds and are sometimes picked on by others. Give it a try, but have a plan B in case problems arise. Good luck.

Thank you very much! Input from experienced people makes me feel better about trying a variety of sizes. We'll try it with the thought that we might need a separate coop. Thank you again:)

Thank you to everyone, it's really good to hear all experiences and thoughts on. I'm glad I asked months in advance to give us time here to think on it and decide. We're fascinated with the different kinds of chickens and would love to have a variety. It sounds like it might be ok as a mix, but that we should have a back up plan for the bantams if needed.
