As I was watching my hens chase Cheerrios this morning, one picked up a Cheerrio, dropped it, and then threw up what looked like water...and then devoured the Cheerrio and many more. I have never seen that happen before - do chickens vomit? What was that stuff?

They do indeed vomit when their crop is too full. Perhaps she'd had too much water and wanted to make room for more cherios. It is slimy/mucous-y. Just make sure she isn't engorging herself to the point of always overfilling her crop, which can stretch it out and lead to crop statis.

I'm so glad I read your post because I have one that does it every once in awhile. I put a post in the sick section but nobody had any answers. I notice mine do it after they drink water. I was worried, but knew they were eating & drinking fine. Happy I got an answer.
