Chicken walks funny, holds tail down, doesn't eat

Here is what I would do.

get some starter crumbles...like for the babies....mix it with pedialyte, plain yogurt and maybe even a little sugar for an energy boost. Wouldnt hurt to put a few drops of baby vitamins in there as well. Try to get her to eat that. The yogurt will help her tummy ( and poo) the vitamins and pedialyte is self explanitory, and the starter crumbles has the nutrients she might need. If you can get her to eat this, every day, mix more feed, less yogurt and such, untill its dry. Good luck with her, I know you have been trying so hard.

Thank you Deb. I will try what you suggested. Yes, I have been trying hard to save her.

I have a lavender Aracuana that is walking like that also with tail down and waddling. She is eating well. I am wondering it she has an injured back or hips the rooster has been very rough at times with her standing on her back. He is now separated from the girls. Do hens get injuries like that from roosters. Thanks Judy

Mine started out not being able to hold her head up. So I syringe fed her liquids with vitamins. The next day she was a lot better. Now she is doing the same thing, tail down and rear arched downward. I haven't had any of this breed la an egg in over a month. I'm not sure if it's because of the aggressive rooster I added to our flock causing them stress or all the little ones running around. I do have her in her own little dog kennel so she is safe and the other day she was cackling so I let her join everyone else for about an hour but she stayed close to us and I made sure the roosters stayed away from her. Now she has diarrhea as well. She does seem to be straining some like she is trying to pass something so I'm not sure if she is straining because of the diarrhea or she is trying to lay an egg. I'm 8 months new to chickens and I spoil them and they get everything they need and more. I just don't know what to do for her.

Oh boy...sounds like what my hen just started doing this afternoon! She's been pretty much off her feed, only eating a few things other than bugs she finds on her own. She's walking around with her tail and rear end "tucked under" like she is trying to pass something. They both quit laying eggs 3 weeks ago so it's not that...and today she was fine...I'm very depressed as she's just now coming out of a horrible mite problem.

Did you ever figure out what your bird had? Is she okay now?

There are only two hens in my yard - and they are very close. No roosters no other pets, etc., and this came out of the blue!

Please rsvp if you are still around....thanks so much.
