If a nipple waterer works for you, then great! That way, your birds won't get into the water and step around in it and leave poop in it. Also, they probably won't be able to get it all over the floor.
I use a standard chicken waterer though. If you can get it high enough above the ground and in a position where there is nothing close by a bird may use as leverage to jump on, then that should work fine as well. So if you have a smaller coop, then you should probably get a nipple waterer.
