Chicken waterers? Do they work for chicks?

Speaking of "keeps water pristine." My traditional chick water dispenser is the messiest part of taking care of my girls. They manage to get the tiny water tray filled with pine shavings faster than I can get back out the door. Ok, that's an exaggeration. But they do make a mess of it for sure. Had I known about the nipple valve approach sooner, I certainly would have tried it. May do so anyway. Where do I find them? I haven't seen them at my local feed store.

Same here.....Amazon...but you can find them on Ebay a tad cheaper, though they are all pretty smokin' cheap. Saves a world of work and worry about water, especially in the summer time...keeps water fresh and you can add vinegar to it to keep it more so. You can even add a frozen water bottle in your bucket to keep the water cold...AND fresh.

I use one in my brooder through a water botter cap and it works great! Will have 9 more to decide what to do with when I figure out how I'm going to design their coop.

If you are talking about the vertical nipples, the screw-in are less likely to leak. All of the vertical nipples will drip, but the push in vertical nipples aren't as "leak" proof as the screw-in type. If you want a no drip system, use the horizontal nipples instead of the vertical ones.

My vertical nipples never leaked, so it could just be a quality issue or a vacuum issue in the container used.

All of ours are vertical. They do not leak. We just received our chicken fountain and it has vertical screw in nipples. I can't wait to install it.

I haven't tried them with chicks but I'm going to with my next batch. I have the nipples attached directly to my hose. I never have to worry about dirty water, refilling a heavy bucket, etc. They do leak a little, but not enough to be a serious problem. I do have to adjust the water flow every once in a while. I think the flow to the house changes and then the water is either spraying them in the face or only a drop comes out.

So when you are talking about a "container," is it something that automatically refills in some way? Is the hose a garden hose? Isn't 80 PSI rather too much? But if it is a container, why does it not have to be refilled? How do you adjust the water flow? Sorry for all the questions, but I've never used these before. I hope you'll take time to answer them for me.

For mine attached to the hose their is a pressure reduction valve that is attached between the pvc pipe and the hose which is adjustable. I have never used the bucket type but I believe how full the bucket is will determine water flow.
