Chicken waterers? Do they work for chicks?

I'm confused now Pawtraitart. Wouldn't horizontal and vertical depend upon the orientation of the water container?
I'm not sure what your question is. I've used both types. When I say "leak" I was referring to the way the vertical nipples work. They drip DOWN when the bird pecks and have a ball bearing inside. The ground under my buckets with the vertical nipples was always wet and I had a hard time keeping the nipples from freezing in the winter. I changed my system to horizontal nipples which are spring loaded. Some of my buckets hang just like my other buckets and I also have wall mounted bottles inside my pens. I don't have moisture or freezing issues with the horizontal nipples like I did with the vertical ones.

My vertical nipples don't have ball bearings, they have a small post/toggle and the water moves to the end of the post and the bird drinks it off. I've had very minimal, if any, wetness under these type of nipples. I know about the ball bearing ones...used to use those for rabbits and the water comes out too much and all over the place when the ball is bounced upward.

The toggle ones look like this...

Could you post a pic of the horizontal nipples? I'm confused

Thank you.

This is what we use also and do not have a leak problem. Some water splatters and gets the ground a little damp as the chickens use them but no probs otherwise.

These are the only horizontal ones I've used but never used them for chicks...I'm not sure they could trigger the toggle. I've used it on adult birds with more success than the vertical nipples.
