Chicken wire and weed wacking

skip the chicken wire. choose a wire roll with slightly larger holes that they can stick heads thru. then they will clear all the weeds from along both sides of the wire out to about 6 inches.

I have a fencing roll dividing my back yard. the lower section is like 2x3 ish or something about that size. On the other side there is a perfectly trimmed grass/weed line up and down the fence. they stick their necks thru and trim a perfect grass/weed line.
That worked great here with 2x4ww until I lined the bottom 2' with HC to keep chicks and deeper bedding in.

I doubt you can do this with a wire mesh. I think you will need a lot more effort than you think. You need to pull the wire mesh very tight and secure or bend all the edges. However, I still think it's not durable and the weeds will continue to grow outside of the grid.Try first clearing the area of weeds using, for example, a trimmer https://trimthatweed.com/string/ and then buy the necessary materials at a construction store to close all the cracks. I'm sure you can also find the necessary materials in the landscaping shop. Write to me if you managed to solve our problem.

^^ Great idea. I have bent strands of 2x3 fencing with my string trimmer. Due to the size of my gardens, I just have to put up with the grass growing by and through the fence. I'm going to try to have a chicken moat on one side this summer. Of course, then I just have another fence line...

I would find free slate stepping stones, largish, or bricks. You can look on Craigs List for them I see them all the time here free ? Slate can be dug 1/2 in the ground and flat against the fence.
Line them along the bottom of the fence. Grass won't grow if you leave no cracks and you can weedwack till your hearts content. Brick will eat the Wacker line faster.
