In the Middle East I'd imagine you're going to be ok with chicken wire, unless you've got something like a honey badger coming through your yard, lol
Hardware Cloth is considered the better choice and go-to product. If the two were the same gauge/thickness, the HC has more wire per square inch = stronger, and has smaller holes = better predator proofing. If you're doing only one layer, HC is hard to beat.
Heavier gauge welded and/or woven wire fencing or chain link (often combined with 1/2" HC for the small rodents/predators) is often used for protection against larger predators like a big canine or bear without using electrified fencing.
Many people always rave about how strong HC is; yes it's strong but personally I wouldn't say HC is THAT much stronger than chicken wire when compared side by side, they're both quite thin gauge wire; but to me the obvious advantages are the smaller holes and that it doesn't flex/stretch/sag as much. If you want to test strength, go mount a piece of each in a sturdy frame and try to kick it out with your foot and you'll see what I mean in terms of strength. The times I've busted out 1/2" HC with my foot, it basically just tore along the wires similar to how fabric would tear. Chicken wire is much more flexible and just moves/flexes when you try to kick it out and thus is quite resilient if it's anchored well. Personally I used chicken wire for the overhead protection on my 2nd run - but 1/2" HC is on everything else for the most part.
