I have been giving my hen Metronidazole 250mg a day split between morning and night for about 6 days now. It seems like it’s breaking apart and coming loose now. Is there anything else I can do for her?

I’ve also been giving her probiotics.

I’ve never expierienced canker before so im not very knowledgeable about it but with any illness it’s good to boost the immune system by giving vitamins like the Bs and rooster booster or poultry nutri drench, you can also squeeze a bit of lemon or grapefruit juice in their water to boost vitamin c, they also have a calming effect on the liver, adding apple cider vinegar with the mother can help the kidneys and whole body, thyme and oregano oil can boost the immune system and have an antibacterial and antiparisitical effect, if you can’t get the oils you can crush the leaves in their water, that’s what I do.

Stop the Metronidazole. You can use Acidified Copper Sulfate to treat your hen.
Dosage is 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water for 3 days once a month. Put it in a plastic container for all your birds to drink monthly. Canker is contagious and birds are carriers. Do not overdose.
Here's where you can buy it:

I did order the acidified copper sulfate it will be here Sunday. She has been separated for the last week. I’m hoping I don’t lose her I’m just so sad that it happened. I’ve had chickens for the past 8 years I’ve never experienced anything like this. She is my oldest hen and the first one I had.

Thanks for the input.

I will try the crushed oregano leaves to try and help boost her along with some lemon thanks so much for the advice.

Where are you located? Does the canker smell bad? I haven’t seen it before, but the thing that seems to differ from wet fowl pox and canker, is that canker really stinks. Fowl pox can also cause the yellow plaques inside the beak and throat. Have you seen any fowl pox scabs in any chickens, or do you have mosquitoes out now? Do you have any pictures of the inside of the beak? I have also read that using thyme extract can help treat canker. The metronidazole is a good treatment, and it is usually only given for 5 days.
