Chicken with dark comb and waddles

Had you not said that it was genetic pigmentation, I would have said she's losing oxygen and will soon die. I had an egg bound hen once whose bright red comb went bluish and she died. I've never heard of this genetic thing.
 
When I first read your post, ^^^ that is what I thought too. The comb is sometimes properly red, but then goes bluish purple color. The ends of the comb are most effected not the base of the comb. That is a sign of heart problems.

When I saw the picture, I realized that is NOT what you have. I think the gypsy face might be what you have, although I have never had one.
