:(My Son has a young chicken approx 12 weeks old that has a double fracture to it's leg one at the hip and the other just above the foot. Does anyone know how we could design a cart to enable her to walk around? She is eating well but her poor leg is twisted backwards when she trys to walk. I tried to splint it but being that it is broken in two places I can't figure out how to splint it to where it benefits her the most. I can't afford to take her to the vet. We have her in a small container inside and she seems to be pretty content. I have seen people that made carts for their dogs that had spine injuries. But I have no idea how to make one for a bird..any idea's?

Are the fractures fresh or old? If they are fresh they should be set and splinted so the bone can heal in realignment. Wrap the entire leg in gauze and then vet wrap with the leg in a straight position. She will have to be immobilized for 2-3 weeks while it heals, but chickens do heal fast!

I know of several people pulling their disabled ducks and chickens around in little wagons. Here is an online company that builds custom carts for all kinds of animals: http://www.k-9cart.com/. Perhaps you could see what they have available for chickens and design your own cart based on their model.

Good luck to you!
