I really need help! We had to evacuate all our chickens and they were in a kennel together and one of them was bullied and has a massive hole in her neck. I cleaned it, loosely bandages it, and separated her but she is in a lot of pain and I need ideas of what to give her pain wise. Please help!!!!
Can you post a picture of her injury in good light? I would offer some sugar water or electrolytes in a small cup. What I recommend for wound care is saline to clean the wound twice a day, and apply plain Neosporin afterward. Vetericyn or other wound spray can be substituted for the saline. Leave it open to air. Keep her separated and offer some moistened chicken feed, egg, and fluids often.
It looks like it is close if not there. Maybe get another picture farther away. When the chick eats or drinks, is anything leaking out of the hole? Does the chick still need heat? Is it separated?
I have not seen her eating or drinking yet but the wound is directly beneath her chin. In this photo she was slouched so the wound appears lower. She is separated and it is plenty hot enough without supplemental heat source
Aspirin 81 mg 1/2 tablet may help with pain depending on her size. But it can cause bleeding, so use caution. How old is she? Let us know how she is getting along.
