Two days ago one of my chickens hurt their leg, I don’t think it’s broken but she’s not walking on it, I put her in a kennel so that she would have access to food and water without needing to walk because I wasn’t sure she would walk to the bowls if she needed to but she’s been panting a lot even when her kennel is in the shade and other chickens are not panting, is she panting in pain or is she just hotter because she’s not moving around. If she is in pain, are there any meds I can give her or something I can do. For now I’ve moved her into a dark air conditioned shed where she seemed to calm down because she stopped panting for now and is eating and drinking. She is a rescue so I don’t know her exact age but she seems to be one to two years and she is still laying eating drinking and pooping normally

Is the kennel a wire kennel with good air flow, or a plastic one with less air circulation? Does she hold the leg up or try to put weight on it? Do you see any green bruising or swelling along the leg, or any scab on her foot pad?How old is she? Was she vaccinated for Mareks? You could try giving her a 1/2 baby aspirin once or twice a day, but meloxicam prescribed by vets is very useful. I wouldn’t keep her too cool since it may be hard to re-accommodate her to the heat.

She is in a wire crate she’s one to two years old, I don’t think she was vaccinated, and I’ll put her back in the coop when it’s cool at night so the tentative isn’t a shock, and will she if I have baby aspirin for now she has stopped panting, and I haven’t seen swelling or bruising, I will check for a scab and yesterday she was only holding it up but today she’s started to try to put weight in it or put it on the ground she’s just very hesitant

She's a rescue. Is she an Ex Battery hen or?

You mention she's laying, eating/drinking and pooping - when was the last egg?

The last egg was a week ago and we got her from a backyard where she were left when her last owners moved out,
Do you feel that she has any bloating or fullness in her abdomen below the vent between her legs?

If you think she should have laid an egg and hasn't, then you may want to give her Extra Calcium for a few days to see if she's having trouble laying. 1 Calcium Citrate with D3 once daily, just pop into the beak and let her swallow.

Ok I’ll give her some calcium, she’s started walking around and getting her food and water in her own, just with a limp
