hi all. firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong section.

i have a bluebelle chicken, who has been unwell with a crop problem for a short while, and have finally got this resolved, and yesterday she started limping. had a good look but couldn't find any obvious reason for it, so left her to see if it would recover over night. this morning, have just been to check on her, and have found she has little orangey red bugs around her skin, which i guess are red mites or nothern fowl mites? however, i have absolutrely no idea what to do about it, as i have never encountered this before. please can someone advise me? i presume a good starting point is to give the house a thorough clean, but what do i do about the actual bugs on the chicken?
she lives with 2 other chickens ( a speckeldy hen, and a white star), and i have had a good look at them, and they dont seem to have any on them. what are the chances they will also be infected? and again, what do i do about it? also, would like to know what causes them so i can prevent it in future.

sorry for so many questions, i really hope someone can help.
thanks in advance.

You will need to dust the chicken. Get some Poultry and Garden Dust from the feed store.

At dusk, when the hen is at roost, grab her off the roost, hold her by her legs so she is upside down. Her being offended is normal.

Shake powder on her neck, each wingpit and her vent area. Give it a gentle rub in. You will need to dust all your chickens.

thanks for the reply. i have thoroughly cleaned the house and powdered it, and powdered all the chickens. i had previously put the mite powder in the house, and in the chickens dust bath, so am unsure how they managed to get infected? any ideas?

thanks again for the help.
