My ex bat Penelope lost her voice on saturday. She was not quite herself on Friday and didn't eat much on Friday and over yesterday and today she has only wanted to eat some porridge. She is usually very chatty and she was trying to chat on saturday but couldn't. Today she is fluffed up and solitary and doesn't want to do much. I gave her some tylan today and yesterday but am not sure what it could be. She isn't weezing and doesn't have any nasal discharge and her abdomen isn't swollen so i have no idea what is up. She was wormed in march so is due to be done again but has been having the herbex stuff monthly. Any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Poor hen. It sounds like you have covered most of the bases. It could be a respiratory infection I suppose even without nasal discharge. The other things to rule out would be mites, or Cocci. I hope she is back to her old self soon.

Thank you for the advice, unfortunately we had to have her put to sleep. It turned out she had sour crop (even though there wasn't much in there), and although this could have been treated she was very ill on top of this with what looked like a respiratory infection and starting to manifest itself in her abdomen. She had a hurrendous temperature and had just given up. It was very quick and very sad.
Thanks again.
