We have one of our girls who just won't get up from the floor.....it has ben so bitter and cold up here in Maine that we suspected she may have injured her foot or got frost bite, so we brought her to live in the basement of our farmhouse where its (relatively) warmer. She has been here for a couple of weeks without getting much better.

Tonight i picked her up and noticed that both her feet seem to be 'stiff' and paralyzed in position. She could not grip around my fingers like the other girls do.

She seems not sick other than this...

Any ideas of what I can do to get her back up on those feet? Any suggestions very welcome!

I would start poultry vitamins in her water, in case of a vitamin deficiency. There can be many different causes of lameness, but Mareks disease may be a possibility. Was she vaccinated for Mareks? You may want to get her up in a chicken sling--some examples are below. Here are some links to read about Mareks:

OK...an update on StumpyHen.

It seems her feet were 'killed off' by frost bite. She is now living (seemly happily) in our basement. One foot has dropped off today. I expect the other will be lost soon too.

We will work on getting her stumps healed and then build her some form of shoe or prosthetic feet to wear.

I will post some pictures as we go.

....and now she has lost both :(

So we will build some form of sling so she is up and heals.

We love your chickens....and if this does not give her a better life, I will humanly put her down.
