We have a Rhode Island Red and New Hampshire mix with a swollen belly. She stands around and doesn't move too much, but she doesn't squat. When you pick her up she is very thin in the front and you can feel that she hasn't been eating as much as usual. She is very heavy in the back, because of the swelling, and has a dirty butt. I was wondering if she had water belly. I don't think it is egg peritonitis because she doesn't stand upright or crouch, but I'm not 100% sure... Does anyone know what we should do? And how to help her? She doesn't seem to be in pain at all... Thanks for any feedback.

i have been dealing with the same thing on of my barred rocks just died a few days ago after suffering for a long time with this. now i figured out i have two more that are swelling,. i am treating for internal laying but i am not totally sure and would love to know, i am giving oral calcium gluconate 3cc and duramyacin injections of 0.5cc on day 3. not sure if it will work but i know they will die like the other if i cant figure it out. i tried water baths, worming, checking for impacted egg. so would love a solution.
