Hi! I'm very new to chickens and everything that comes with the joys of keeping chickens. I live in East Africa and we have Kienyeji (local) chickens. We have had them for a few months now and the girls have started laying and everyone seems pretty happy, but I've noticed one of my girls has wart-like lumps on the corner of her beak going into her nose. Could this be Papilloma? The chickens are suppose to be fully vaccinated, if I can trust the dodgy breeder who has disappeared. Can anyone help identify this and if there is a treatment? Thanks in advance!

It is absolutely a problem here. The chickens are suppose to be vaccinated against Fowl Pox. Can they still get a mild form? If so what would be my next steps?

If it is dry pox and it kinda looks like it to me. Then it will ride its course, in my experience it was new chicks that suffered not juveniles or adults.
Personally I am dubious about vaccinating for pox, there are many strains so one never knows which is the culprit.
A boost of scrambled eggs and/or some vitamins for a few days will always help boost their immune system.
Keep an eye on them to check it does not turn into wet pox (check inside their beaks).
Dry pox lingers in the soil (over 6 months in my case) so avoid hatching chicks for a spell.

Edit for clarity: Its the dry pox scabs that fall off which can linger in the soil and reinfect other birds if they peck at them (so I had to be careful about spreading it with footware but my cases were extreme). As for mozzies who bring the pox, well not much we can do about that.

Thank you for this info!

The girls have just started laying so could the stress of that make their immune systems drop to allow this outbreak? My poor girls!

I will spoil them and help them feel better. What do I do if there are lumps inside their mouths?
