I posted on Sunday that a dog took a big bite out of my chickens neck and there wasn't skin left there to cover the wound.

I cleaned it with the saline solution, gave electrolytes and bought BlueKote ( which is like a liquid bandage) and she is also drinking antibiotic terramycin. She looks better every day- I know she isn't out of the woods yet but she is eating drinking and I let her out for a little bit everyday to go foraging. I 'll keep you updated- Thanks for the suggestions.:|

Please do NOT use Blu-kote on this wound... this is a deep wound and not superficial (Blu-kote is not for deep wounds) and needs to be kept moist either with a triple antibiotic cremem or if you do not have that with honey.

that would keep it moist but would do nothing for bacterial issues...kind of pot luck there.

Wow how confusing- my feed store told me to get blue-kote. Honey would be a huge mess with getting all kinds of things stuck in there while it's trying to heal. Now I don't know what to do- she did lay an egg today.

Just keep the wound clean and moist, and if flies are out in your area, keep her inside till it scabs over really well. Bluekote is good for light abrasions and small wounds, but big open ones probably need a bit more "help" than bluekote. Best of luck!
